The Role

The Assistant Tasting Room Manager acts as the point person for events and the Tasting Room. They supervise and oversee the operation of the Tasting Room in the absence of the Hospitality Manager.  They also work with all departments on the generation of ideas and events and how to streamline existing events. Once an event is confirmed your role will be to assist the clients up to and throughout the day of the event to ensure positive experiences are achieved.

Duties & Responsibilities

Events

  • Work collaboratively with management on generation of ideas for new events and how to streamline existing events
  • Train and develop event leaders and team to ensure high levels of knowledge, controls and customer service are carried out during events
  • In charge of all correspondence leading up to events
  • Conduct all onsite meetings/facility tours with clients and vendors
  • Ensure that event spaces and itineraries are set up with health and safety in mind
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure a high level of comprehension of facilities/operating systems
  • Work with the Marketing team to promote private and public events
  • Develop Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) for every event
  • Work directly with the food service provider/on-site caterer to ensure prompt service, value and level of service
  • Work with the Hospitality Manager and Office Administrator to ensure accurate and timely collection of payment
  • Conduct post-event follow-up with clients
  • Other duties as required

Tasting Room & Terrace Restaurant

  • Delegating tasks to staff members and ensuring that they are done to satisfaction
  • Scheduling assistance and working to maintain desired productivity numbers
  • Handling customer complaints
  • Overseeing all staff and customers and making sure everything is running smoothly in all areas
  • Ensuring cash outs and daily close are completed and accurate
  • Assisting the Hospitality Manager in continuous training and development of new and existing staff
  • Keeping set standards for the Tasting Room and Terrace
  • Assist in efforts to market and drive traffic to the winery
  • Quarterly inventory counts & reconciliation
  • Ensuring ordering and receiving of wine is done accurately and on scheduled days
  • Maintain and build excellent relationships with Tour Operators and Tour Companies
  • Other duties as required

Top Candidate Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience in a supervisory role in the Food & Beverage industry, winery or brewery experience ideal
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Serving it Right Certificate
  • Advanced Wine Knowledge (WSET or ISG level 2) is an asset
  • Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 2 or willingness to get certified
  • Knowledgeable with computer programs such as Canva, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work well with other leaders to build a winning culture
  • Ability to manage multiple people in a busy environment

Working Conditions & Physical Environment

  • Ability to lift 24 kg.
  • Ability to stand for 8 hours.
  • Able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Compensation and Other Details

    • Hours: Full-time, permanent position
    • Location: In-person at Monte Creek Winery
    • Pay: $24 – $28/hr (wage dependent on candidate experience)
